Another state record for Nick Bendtsen

It seems that every time recent Wolcott High School graduate Nick Bendtsen takes to the track, a record is in danger of being broken.

The Connecticut record in the two-mile was the latest record to fall to Bendtsen. Bendtsen ran the two-mile at the New York State Showcase on Saturday in Accord, N.Y., and did so in a winning time of 8:53.15. That time was 0.34 second faster than the 8:53.49 that Brien McMahon-Norwalk’s Eric van der Els ran at the PR Invitational in Renton, Wash., in 2016. Bendtsen posted about the record-breaking effort on Instagram, and it was reported in the Sunday Republican.

Bendtsen’s seed time of 8:53.33 was on pace to break van der Els’ record, and then he went faster than that in the actual race on Saturday. Bendtsen’s last lap around the track at Rondout Valley High School was his fastest (1:02.284).
