SATURDAY’S TOURNEY ROUNDUP: Bristol Eastern girls volleyball reaches semifinal round

Three area teams played for a spot in the semifinal round of their state tournament brackets on Saturday, but only one was able to win and move on.

Bristol Eastern girls volleyball won in straight sets over Tolland at home and will play top-seeded Woodstock Academy on Wednesday at a time and place to be announced. Kennedy girls volleyball was ousted by third-seeded RHAM in another Class L quarterfinal match. In boys soccer, Bristol Central saw its Class L run end in a quarterfinal road loss to Daniel Hand (Madison).

No. 4 Bristol Eastern 3, No. 5 Tolland 0

Class L girls volleyball quarterfinal round

The Lancers made quick work of their CCC foe and earned a spot in the semifinal round. The set scores were 25-15, 25-13 and 25-16.

Zoe Lowe pounded out 17 kills to lead Bristol Eastern’s attack. Bella Nozzolillo added seven kills for the Lancers. Rebecca Bender and Aliana Rivoira each tallied five aces while Alex Dimattia added four aces. Lowe provided 13 digs while Dimattia had 11, and Rivoira tallied 32 assists.

Class L girls volleyball quarterfinal round

The Eagles didn’t have enough answers for the Sachems and lost in Hebron. The set scores were 25-13, 25-18 and 25-17.

Kennedy finished its season with a first-ever NVL Tournament championship and an overall record of 21-4. It was the final match for Eagle seniors Arianna Padilla, Marin Delaney, Derya Demirel, Susana Mejia and Hannah West.

Class L boys soccer quarterfinal round

The magical run by the Rams came to an end against the defending Class L champions.

Xavier Browne and Sebastian Garay-Ortega scored goals for Bristol Central, which ended its season with a record of 8-7-4. It was the final game for Ram seniors Garay-Ortega, Justin Fetzer, Hunter Peterson, Richard Carmelich, Brandon Holland, Yanni Koci, Kenni Cantarero, James Nedorostek, Adam Chawner and Jason Fetzer.
