MONDAY’S TOURNEY ROUNDUP: Bristol Central girls soccer wins in blowout fashion

Monday was the first full day of CIAC state tournament action and there were plenty of area teams involved.

Girls soccer

No. 25 Bristol Central blasted No. 8 Bullard Haven of Bridgeport by a score of 13-0 in a Class L first round game. Mia Santilli had a hat trick while Ashlee Crumrine, Bella Bosco, Mia Hinton and Hannah Aldieri each scored two goals. Adalia Malick and Morgan Patnode also scored a goal. Erika Santilli, Lily Hansen, Faith Roy and Maddie Ross led the Ram defensive effort. Liz Hintz and Haley Riley combined for the clean sheet in goal.

No. 7 Wolcott hosted No. 26 Valley Regional in Class M first round action and won 4-2. Lauren Kazemakas, Tiona Watts, Alex Arteaga and Ella Vaughn each scored a goal while Brooke Tracey had two assists. Watts and Ella Vaughn each had one assist. Also in Class M, No. 15 Holy Cross beat No. 18 Berlin 3-1 at Ray Snyder Sr. Field. Alana Snow, Alyssa Hebb and Sophie Vescera scored for the Crusaders. Snow also had an assist, as did Adalisse Padilla. Tori Schaffner came up big in goal for Holy Cross, and the defense played well in front of her.

No. 18 Bristol Eastern was eliminated by No. 15 Lauralton Hall by a score of 3-2 in Milford in a Class L first round game. Sara Stadnicki and Ciara Collins each scored a goal for the Lancers. It was the final game for Bristol Eastern seniors Hanna Richards, Ava Gilbert, Angie Lusitani, Meredith Forman, Kailey Laprise, Myah Croze and Danielle Bairrington. Also in Class L, No. 20 Sacred Heart/Kaynor Tech was eliminated by No. 13 Daniel Hand by a score of 7-0. It was the final game for co-op seniors Elysa Lopez, Grace Stone, Ashlyn Arcuri, Shelbe Turner, Ashley Cyr, Bernie Hernandez and Siobhan Gilmore.

Girls volleyball

St. Paul and Bristol Central were the winners out of five local teams on the first day. The No. 5 Falcons knocked off No. 28 University by a score of 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-12) in a Class S first round match, and the No. 9 Rams beat No. 24 Sacred Heart Academy 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-13) in Class L.

No. 26 Holy Cross put a scare into No. 7 Bolton before falling 3-2 (25-22, 25-23, 14-25, 20-25, 15-10) in the first round of Class S. It was the final match for Crusader seniors Julia Dzinski, Julia Joyce, Ja’Lin Waters, Julia Flynn, Nadia French-Graham and Val Nobrega. No. 25 Wolcott saw its season end in a 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-13) Class M first round loss to No. 8 St. Joseph. It was the final game for Eagle seniors Ashley Pulvermacher, Sarah Hughes and Alyson Garofalo. No. 21 Kaynor Tech was downed by No. 12 Woodland by a score of 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-7), also in Class M. It was the final game for Panther seniors Tamira Machado, Selyzette Carrero, Rianna Albert and Yoelis Rodriguez.
