Wolcott football hands Seymour first loss

Wolcott football came up with a huge 34-27 win over previously undefeated Seymour on Friday night at Joe Monroe Field.

The Eagles improved to 3-2 while the Wildcats fell to 4-1.

Seymour led 27-20 in the fourth quarter, but Wolcott scored the game’s final two touchdowns to steal the win, according to a summary posted by Doug Bonjour on the GameTimeCT website. Quarterback Anthony Ligi scored from 16 yards out, his fourth rushing touchdown of the game, to pull the Eagles to within 27-26. Ligi’s two-point conversion run put Wolcott ahead 28-27.

The Eagle ground attack struck again when Jake Sforza scored on a six-yard run. The two-point conversion run failed, but Wolcott held a 34-27 lead.

Ligi scored on runs of 49, 61, 18 and 16. Seymour scored the game’s first touchdown for a 7-0 lead, but Ligi countered with his 49-yard scamper and a two-point conversion run for an 8-7 lead in the second quarter. The Wildcats scored again to take a 13-8 lead into the half. Back-to-back Ligi touchdown runs put the Eagles up 20-13 in the third quarter. Tyler Ganim caught a touchdown pass from Ian Sadick, then ran for another score to put Seymour ahead 27-20.
