JUNIOR LEGION: Bristol opens state tourney with runaway win over Windsor

The Bristol Post 2 Junior American Legion baseball team began Northern Division “Regional Tournament” with a “home” game Tuesday against Windsor at Oliver Ellsworth School in Windsor.

The change in scenery, no surprise given the foul weather the area has had recently, didn’t phase Bristol, which ran away with an 11-2 victory over Windsor. The game was originally scheduled for Riley Field in Bristol on Monday, but it was rained out.

After scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning Tuesday, Post 2 erupted for six more in the second to go ahead by a comfortable 7-0 margin. Windsor got two runs in the top of the fourth, but Bristol tallied four more runs in the sixth for the game’s final margin.

Trevor Mays threw 69 pitches over six innings for the win. Dylan Woodsome took 14 pitches to finish the game off in the seventh.

Bristol is scheduled to host Tri-County, like Windsor a Zone 8 foe, today at 4:30 p.m. at Riley Field. That’s weather permitting, and there’s a 90 percent chance of thunderstorms for Bristol, according to The Weather Channel website. Tri-County beat Ledyard/Pawcatuck (Zone 6) 10-3 in the other Pod A game played Tuesday.
