The third meeting between the St. Paul and Holy Cross girls soccer teams came in Thursday’s NVL final on the turf of DeBarber Field at Seymour High School.
The Falcons picked up their second, and by far biggest, win of the season over the Crusaders, 2-0, and claimed their first NVL girls soccer tournament title.
Kendall Davis scored in the first half, Hannah Rinhart found the net in the second half. Nina Zwolinski and the terrific St. Paul defense made sure Holy Cross wouldn’t get back into the match.
The Falcons, 10-3-3 during the regular season, ran their total record to 13-3-3. The Crusaders, who were 12-2-2 in the regular season, dropped to 14-3-2.
Both teams will play in the Class S state tournament. Holy Cross is the likely No. 2 seed, and St. Paul comes in at No. 4. Those seeds will be confirmed by a tournament committee meeting on Friday morning.
