For the second time in five years, the Naugatuck Dogs and Tri-Town Trojans will meet in the Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League’s World Series.
Naugatuck, the runner-up to the Watertown Blaze last year, hope to finish the job against Tri-Town this time around. The Trojans beat the Dogs for the 2013 championship.
Naugatuck and Tri-Town play tonight at 7 o’clock at Torrington’s Fuessenich Park. Game 2 is slated for 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Waterbury’s Municipal Stadium. Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday back at Fuessenich.
This is Naugatuck’s third appearance overall in the championship, and all have come in the past five years. Tri-Town is in the World Series for the sixth time. The Trojans made the series in three straight years from 2013 to 2015, claiming the title in 2013 over the Dogs. Tri-Town also played for all the marbles in 2010 and 2011, but lost both.
Look at the champions of the last seven Stan Musial state tournaments, and you will see Naugatuck and Tri-Town a combined five times. The Dogs won the Stan Musial in 2011, 2012 and 2015 while the Trojans claimed the title in 2013 and 2014.
Naugatuck and Tri-Town have already met this postseason, with the Trojans defeating the Dogs 3-1 on Saturday, Aug. 12. Tri-Town knocked off the Bethlehem Plowboys to claim a spot in the World Series. Naugatuck had to win out, and did so, beating the Terryville Black Sox, Watertown Blaze and Bethlehem.
