Wolcott honored its 2016 Class M state championship baseball team during halftime of Friday night’s boys basketball game against Derby.
Head coach Tary Scott and players gathered at halfcourt to be recognized. The new banner was also unveiled during the festivities. Wolcott beat Northwestern 3-2 on a walkoff two-run homer by Ray Bartoli. It was the first state championship in the history of the baseball program.
On a cool note via Anita Warren, Jacob Ramos was given a standing ovation by those in attendance on Friday night. Ramos is in the United States Navy, but was on leave. All but two of the players were in attendance.

Three in a row for the boys
Don’t look now, but the Wolcott boys basketball team is finding its groove.
The Eagles beat the Derby Red Raiders 74-58 at home on Friday night for their third straight victory. Wolcott improved to 3-5 with the win.
Pat Drewry continued his red-hot play with 21 points, his second straight outing with that point total. Ten other Eagles also scored in the game, including nine points each from Preston Lavoie and Jack Drewry.
Wolcott beat Seymour 74-65 on the road Wednesday night by outscoring their opponent 43-27 in the second half. The Eagles had trailed by seven points at halftime.

Cody, Doubleday leading girls
After losing three straight games to fall back to .500, the Wolcott girls have regained momentum.
Raven Cody and Megan Doubleday are two big reasons why the Eagles sit at 6-4.
Cody dropped a game-high 25 points in a 68-41 road win over Derby on Friday night. Doubleday tallied 14 points in the win.
In a 50-47 home win over Seymour Wednesday, Cody and Doubleday each scored 15 points.

Maldonado leads the way
Jonathan Maldonado claimed a fourth place finish in the 1,000 meters during Saturday’s Shoreline Conference Coaches Invitational. The meet was held at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.
