The Bristol Post 2 American Legion baseball team finds itself tied with Avon atop the Zone 1 standings following Sunday’s Zone 1 games.
Bristol swept a doubleheader against Wolcott Post 165 at Wolcott High School. Avon won the first game of its doubleheader against Unionville, but saw the second game get rained out, according to Gerry deSimas of the collinsvillepress.com website.
Bristol and Avon both sit at 15-5 entering the first of two games against each other this evening at 6 o’clock at Muzzy Field. Post 2 has another game scheduled for 7:45 tonight against Southington. On Tuesday, Bristol and Avon are slated to meet again at 5:30 p.m. at Muzzy.

Bristol 8, Wolcott 3
Noah Cruz went 3-for-3 with a home run, two walks, two RBI and a run scored to lead Post 2. Troy Micale was 3-for-4 with two RBI, a walk and a run scored while Ben Mazzone was 2-for-4 with a RBI, walk and run scored. Zach Marquis and Chadd Richardson each had two hits. Brad Burney pitched a complete game to pick up the win.
For Post 165, Mike Gugilotti was 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Matt Warren had two hits and a run batted in while Isaiah Negretti had a hit and RBI. Negretti took the loss on the mound.
Bristol 8, Wolcott 7
Post 2 was able to hang on for the win over Post 165 to complete the sweep.
Cruz homered yet again for Bristol. He had two hits and a RBI. Greg Lozier had two hits and a RBI while Richardson added a double and RBI. Cory Fradette also drove in a run for Post 2. Zach Marquis added a double, and Wes Lahey picked up the victory on the mound.
For Post 165, Matt Warren went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Robert Perazzella doubled twice, drove in a run and scored a run. Vincent Gambino had two RBI while Gugliotti and Jacob Gabriel added a RBI apiece.
Wolcott dropped to 11-10 in the zone with the two losses.
