The Wolcott boys basketball team has done what it can in the NVL Iron Division race.
The Eagles finished with a 6-2 mark in the division following last night’s 63-41 victory over Naugatuck inside the John Morris Gymnasium at Wolcott High School.
Matt Finke had 23 points to lead Wolcott (11-7). The Eagles clinched at least a tie for the division title with the win last night.
All that’s left for Wolcott is to wait and see. Watertown (4-2 division, 9-8 overall) and Torrington (5-2 division, 8-9 division) still have a say. The Indians and Red Raiders meet tomorrow night at 7 in Torrington. If Torrington wins its final division game, it earns a tie with Wolcott for the title and knocks Watertown out. The Eagles and Raiders split their two regular season meetings. After Torrington, Watertown still has a division game left against Naugatuck.
Wolcott beat Watertown twice during the regular season. If the Eagles and Indians end up tied, then the Eagles get the title. That’s according to NVL tiebreakers listed on the Waterbury Republican-American’s website.
The bottom line is Wolcott did what it could. Now the Eagles need to wait and see if other pieces fall into place.
