Bristol Eastern wrestling earns runner-up finish at Branford’s Shoreline Duals

The Bristol Eastern wrestling team won three out of four matchups this past Friday at Branford High School’s Shoreline Duals. The Lancers improved to 7-3 on the season.

Eastern won big over Fitch-Groton (72-10), Manchester (63-16) and Branford (61-16), which put it into the final against seventh-ranked Killingly. The Lancers fell in the final, 42-30.

Yussuf Bah (106 pounds), Luke Viens (132) and Ryan Zavecz (215) all posted 4-0 records to lead Eastern. Viens and Zavecz each recorded four pins while Bah tallied three pins and a forfeit.

Xavier Rozie (120) won his first three matches via pin on the way to a 3-1 record. Trevin Guadarrama claimed a pin, technical fall and major decision in his first three matches, all at 144, and his lone loss came at 150.

Weston Williams (285) sandwiched two pins around a major decision on the way to a 3-1 record. Coltyn Masse (126), Juan Florentino (138) and Ricardo Batista (190) all recorded two pins on their way to 3-1 records. Ramessis Santiago (113) may have gone 2-2, but both of his wins were via pin.

Bristol Central posted a 2-2 record at Norwich Free Academy’s Carl Snitkin Duals and placed fifth overall.

The Rams (8-7) lost to Notre Dame-West Haven (35-32) and NFA (43-35) and picked up a win over Ellis Tech-Danielson (48-21) in Pool A of the two pool format. That put Central into a fifth place match against Staples-Westport. The Rams topped the Wreckers, 45-32.

Lincoln Archibald, who had just picked up his 100th career win, recorded a technical fall and three pins to go 4-0 on the day. The first of three pins came at 175 while the other wins were at 165.

Rocco Paolino (190) received a forfeit in his first bout of the day, then put up three straight wins for a 4-0 record.

Julian Colon won his first match of the day by decision at 132, then recorded a technical fall, pin and another decision at 126 to go 4-0.

Cole Krueger (215) picked up two pins, a win by decision and a forfeit for a 4-0 mark while Kody Dragon (106) sandwiched a decision and pin around two forfeits to also go 4-0. Michael Beaucar (285) was 3-1 on the day with two pins and a forfeit. Luis Lumpkin (150) had two wins, both by pin.
